Em 1998, a família Symington, importante proprietária de vinho no vale do Douro, associou-se a Bruno Prats, um dos mais prestigiados enólogos de Bordéus para juntos produzirem um vinho tinto de referência no Douro. O Chryseia é vinificado com macerações prolongadas, ao estilo bordalês, na pequena, especializada adega de Roriz e posteriormente estagia durante 14 meses em barricas novas de carvalho francês com 400 litros no armazém da quinta construído em xisto. O Chryseia simboliza a união da nobre herança vitícola portuguesa com a não menos rica tradição enológica bordalesa.

In 1998, the Symington family, leading vineyard owners in the Douro Valley, joined forces with legendary Bordeuax winemaker Bruno Prats to make a landmark red wines from the Douro. Chryseia is vinified witch prolonged macerations, in the Bordeaux manner, at the small, specialist winery at Roriz, and then aged for fourteen months in new 400 litre French oak within the Quinta’s schist-walled barrel cellar. The name Chryseia is the Greek translation of Douro, literally “of gold”, and symbolizes the union of noble Portuguese vineyard heritage with an equally rich Bordeaux winemaking tradition.
